# Maintenance Setup

Use these questions to prepare for the Kanoa Maintenance certification exam.

<details>
<summary>What's the difference between a maintenance type and a work type?</summary>

A maintenance type, such as Preventive, classifies the work order. A work type, such as Lubrication, classifies one technician's labor on it, so one work order can have several. See [Lookups and Technicians](../01-maintenance-setup/1-lookups-and-technicians.md).

</details>

<details>
<summary>Why do work order statuses belong to categories?</summary>

So several statuses can count as the same thing, such as closed or waiting, and the backlog and KPIs still work when you add your own statuses. See [Lookups and Technicians](../01-maintenance-setup/1-lookups-and-technicians.md).

<details>
<summary>What's the difference between a procedure step and a check?</summary>

A step is a major phase of the job with an estimated time. A check is one task within a step, with a data type for recording the result. See [Write a Procedure](../01-maintenance-setup/2-procedures.md).

</details>

<details>
<summary>How does a procedure reach a technician?</summary>

It's attached to a work order template, and every work order generated from that template carries it. See [Write a Procedure](../01-maintenance-setup/2-procedures.md).
