# Backlog and Labor

:::action[Check the backlog]

1. In **Maintenance → Maintenance Analytics**, find the **Work Order Flow** chart: created, completed and open work orders over time.
2. Find **Backlog Aging**: open work orders grouped by how long they've been open (0–7, 8–30, 31–60 and 60+ days).
3. Switch to the stacked view, segmented by maintenance type and then by priority.

:::

| If you see | It means |
|---|---|
| Created higher than completed | The backlog is growing |
| Completed higher than created | The backlog is shrinking |
| Preventive work aging in the stacked view | PM is being deferred to fight fires |
| High-priority work in the older buckets | Urgent work is being neglected |

:::action[Review labor hours]

1. Find the **Labor Hours** KPIs: technician hours, procedure step hours, their total, average time active, and average time to complete.
2. Look at **Labor Hours by Technician**. Both you and `technician` appear, from the coolant leak work order.
3. In the **Maintenance Work Order Hours** table, find the coolant leak and the weekly PM, and compare their logged hours with their total and active durations.

:::

Logged labor and elapsed time are reported separately on purpose. A work order that's been open for days with only an hour logged is waiting, not being worked, which is exactly what this comparison shows.
