# Build a Marquee

::embed-section{src="../../../kanoa-ops-analysis/marquees.md" collapsed="true" summary="Reference Materials: All About Marquees."}

A marquee puts key production information on shared screens without anyone having to interact with the application. In this lesson you create a marquee, add dashboards with durations and sort order, preview it, and assign it to a display.

:::action[Create a marquee]

1. Navigate to **Dashboards → Marquee Editor**.
2. Click the plus button. A new marquee is created with a default name.
3. Double-click the name to rename it, for example `Machine Analytics`, and press **Enter** to confirm.

Expand the marquee using the arrow next to its name. The marquee starts empty.

4. Click the plus button inside the marquee.
5. Select `System Dashboard\Asset Overview`.
6. Set the duration to 30 seconds.
7. Save it.
8. Click the plus button inside the marquee again.
9. Select `Downtime Dashboards\OEE and Top Downtimes` (the dashboard you built in the previous lesson).
10. Set the duration to 30 seconds.
11. Save it.
:::

Click **Preview Selected Marquee**. The marquee opens in a new tab so you can confirm that dashboards appear in the expected order, durations feel reasonable, the layout works on a large display, and the content is readable without interaction.

### TV Displays

The second part of the marquee system is **Displays**. A display represents a specific screen, TV, or viewing station that opens a marquee URL.
Once a TV has been setup to launch a client, which marquee is displayed, for how long and how it looks can all be managed from the KanoaMES application.

:::action[Add a Display]
1. Go to the **Displays** tab.
2. Click the + button to add a new display and enter the following values.

| Site Code | Location | Screen Name |
|---|---|---|
| philly | breakroom | tv1 |

3. Click `Ok'. This will open a new tab displaying 'No Marquee'. This is because we haven't configured what is to be shown on this display.
4. Switch back to the KanoaMES browser tab. On the Displays tab of the Marquee Editor, select the `Machine Analytics` marquee to be displayed on this tv.
5. Switch back to the TV display browser tab. You should see that it is now cycling through the Machine Analytics Marquee.

:::caution[Avoid interactive selectors]
Selector widgets for asset, date range, area, or time scope are useful on normal dashboards, but marquee displays are passive — a TV display should not require anyone to interact with it. For marquee dashboards, use hardcoded asset paths, hardcoded or default time ranges, dashboard/widget parameters, and a preconfigured display scope instead of asset selectors, date range selectors, or other interactive controls.
