# Trace Fundamentals

Use these questions to prepare for the Kanoa Trace certification exam.

<details>
<summary>What does a lot record contain, and what doesn't it?</summary>

A lot has an ID, a name, an item and a unit. Its quantity, location and state come from its lot events. See [Trace Fundamentals](../01-trace-fundamentals/index.md).

</details>

<details>
<summary>What's the difference between a lot operation and a lot operation event?</summary>

A lot operation is a configured type, such as `Transfer`. A lot operation event is one time it was carried out, and groups that occurrence's input and output lot events. See [Trace Fundamentals](../01-trace-fundamentals/index.md).

</details>

<details>
<summary>What's the difference between a transfer and a transformation?</summary>

A transfer moves the same lot to a new location. A transformation consumes input lots and creates a different output lot. See [Trace Fundamentals](../01-trace-fundamentals/index.md).

</details>

<details>
<summary>Why does the `Ship` operation not allow output lots?</summary>

Ship is an endpoint. It removes material from inventory without creating a new lot, and the shipped lot stays traceable. See [Configure the Lot Flow](../01-trace-fundamentals/1-configure-the-lot-flow.md).

</details>

<details>
<summary>What does the Inspect step in the manual flow demonstrate?</summary>

A split: one input lot produces a passed `OK` output and a `Scrap` output, and both branches stay traceable. See [Run the Manual Lot Flow](../01-trace-fundamentals/2-run-the-manual-lot-flow.md).

</details>

<details>
<summary>The shipped package isn't listed in Lot Manager. How do you see it?</summary>

Clear the **Active** checkbox to show lots with no remaining material, or trace it. See [Inventory and Trace](../01-trace-fundamentals/3-inventory-and-trace.md).

</details>

<details>
<summary>A supplier reports a bad batch of aluminum. Which trace do you run?</summary>

A forward trace from that aluminum lot, to find every product and shipment that contains it. See [Inventory and Trace](../01-trace-fundamentals/3-inventory-and-trace.md).
