Technician & Labor Tracking

Kanoa Maintenance work orders can now log multiple technicians against a single work order event, each with their own work type and time spent. This replaces the assumption that one work order event maps to one technician, and gives maintenance teams an accurate picture of who worked on what, and for how long.

This is useful any time more than one person contributes to the same job - a two-person lift, a technician plus an apprentice shadowing, or a repair that gets handed off between shifts.

Logging Technicians on a Work Order Event​

Each work order event has its own Technicians list, shown alongside the event's status, checks, and parts. For every technician who worked the event, the list captures:

  • Technician - the user who performed the work
  • Work Type - the kind of work they did (e.g. Repair, Inspection, Design)
  • Duration - how long they worked, in minutes

Technicians are added and edited individually, so a single work order event can carry any number of entries - one per technician, or several for the same technician if they logged time across more than one work type. Removing an entry only removes that technician's logged time; it doesn't affect anyone else's entries on the same event, and entries are removed automatically if the parent work order event itself is deleted.

Work Types​

Work Type is a new configurable lookup describing the kind of labor a technician performed - separate from Maintenance Type, which classifies the work order itself (Corrective, Preventive, etc.), not the individual's labor against it. A work order classified as Preventive maintenance might still involve a technician logging Repair time and another logging Inspection time.

Work Types are managed the same way as other CMMS lookups (Priorities, Maintenance Types): each has a name, an enabled flag, a color for quick visual identification, and a sort order controlling how it's listed. Work Types can be enabled/disabled and reordered from configuration without affecting historical entries already logged against a work order.

Why It Matters​

Tracking technicians at this level of detail feeds directly into Kanoa Maintenance's labor-hours reporting:

  • Total labor hours, combining technician time and procedure step time
  • Labor hours by technician, to see workload distribution across the team
  • Labor hours by work order, alongside total and active duration for that event
