Operator Effectiveness Check

Use these questions to prepare for the Kanoa Ops certification exam.

How do OLE and POLE differ from OEE?

They share OEE's Performance and Quality factors but measure Availability for labor. OLE uses the time an operator was logged in; POLE uses the time they were logged in and the asset was running. For each operator, both are divided by that operator's scheduled time, so POLE can never be higher than OLE. See Operator Effectiveness.

What does the Labor Gap tell you?

The difference between OLE and POLE availability: time people were present but the line wasn't producing, such as changeovers or waiting on material. At the line or site level it can go negative, meaning the line kept running despite fewer scheduled people showing up (understaffed). See Operator Login and Analysis.

Why are crews created at the site rather than on a line?

Crews cover whichever lines need people. A schedule set at the site applies to every line beneath it, so it matches the line each operator actually logs into. See Crews and Scheduling.

If someone joins a crew next week, does that change shifts already assigned to the crew?

No. Assigning a crew to a shift takes a snapshot of the crew's members on the assignment's start date, so the schedule stays a record of what was planned. See Crews and Scheduling.

What happens when an operator badges in to a second line without badging out of the first?

Their session on the first line ends automatically, unless they are allowed multiple sessions (for example, a lead covering two lines). See Operator Login and Analysis.

Two operators share a line. Which attribution mode would you use for a trainee shadowing an experienced operator?

FullCredit, so both get full credit for the line's output. EvenSplit (the default) shares output between everyone logged in, and PrimaryOnly gives performance and quality credit only to the first person logged in. See Operator Login and Analysis.

OLE and POLE show 0 but attendance looks correct. What should you check?

That the asset has a standard rate for the item it's running. Without one, performance can't be calculated, so OLE and POLE come back as 0. See OLE / POLE Labor Effectiveness Analysis.
