Scheduling Check

A maintenance block is scheduled on an asset, but the asset doesn't switch to Maintenance mode when the block starts. What should you check?

That the mode is linked to the asset with Auto Schedule enabled on the asset-mode link (it is on by default), and that the mode can be scheduled. Also check the asset's current mode: the schedule only sets the mode when the asset is idle and its current mode was not set by the PLC or by an operator. See Operations scheduling.

Do shifts start or stop production?

No. Shifts don't create production runs, start or stop production, or store quantities. They provide time windows that Kanoa combines with production, count, and state data at query time for reporting — for example, OEE by shift. See Shifts.

Why configure the Day and Evening shifts on the Philadelphia site instead of on each line?

Shifts are inherited through the asset hierarchy, so the areas and lines below the site pick up its shifts automatically. You then create shifts only on the assets that need something different, such as Manual Pack 1 with its Manual Pack Shift. See Shifts.

After you create the Manual Pack Shift on Manual Pack 1, does Manual Pack 1 still have Day Shift and Evening Shift?

No. Once a shift is created at any level, shifts from higher levels are no longer inherited at that level. Manual Pack 1 only has the Manual Pack Shift, while Machine 1 and Spray Line 1 still inherit the site's Day and Evening shifts. See Shifts.

Is a production order an event?

No. A production order is a record of planned work (item, quantity, due date, status), not something that happened at a timestamp. Events such as schedule blocks, production mode events, and count events are associated with it, which lets Kanoa track progress against the order. See Production orders.

When you drag a production order onto the schedule, how does Kanoa estimate its duration?

From the order quantity and the scheduled rate for that asset-item combination, or the standard rate if no scheduled rate is set. Both rates are set on the item-asset link in the Materials configuration. See Operations scheduling.

With Shift Time Only enabled, what happens when you schedule an operation that is longer than the remaining shift time?

The operation is forced to fit within the asset's shift times, so it is split into multiple events, each scheduled at its earliest possible time. You turn this on from the gear icon on the Ops → Scheduling → Operations screen. See Schedule Operations.
