Trigger and Notify

A Mode Change trigger issues a check when an asset enters a mode. The production run supplies both the asset and the item, which fills in the context the FAI requires.

Add the mode-change trigger
  1. Open Machining - First Article Inspection and go to the Triggers tab.
  2. Add a trigger of type Mode Change with mode Production.
  3. Set Delay 5, Coming Due 5, Over Due 5 and Grace 5 minutes.
  4. Save and release the check sheet.
Reference Materials: Trigger Types

Trigger Types

  • Manual: A check sheet can be manually created without this trigger, however if manual trigger is created, it will specify how much time a user has to take the checks once it has been scheduled.

  • Mode Change: When the mode changes on an asset i.e. from Changeover to Production, this trigger will schedule a check sheet if it meets the specified mode/shift, other options.

  • Product Change: When the product changes on an asset, this check sheet will be scheduled if the currently running product is specified by the check sheet.

    • Every Product: Quality check is required every time the product changes
    • Unique Products Per Shift: Quality check is required only once per product per shift
    • Once Per Shift: Only one quality check will be performed per shift
  • Re-Test: Set the delay, coming due etc. when a check sheet is scheduled due to a re-tst being required.

  • Shift Change: Check sheet will be scheduled if the current shift meets the shift settings of this trigger.

  • Timed Interval: This check sheet will be triggered periodically based on the mode and shift settings.

Note If a trigger causes a new check sheet to be scheduled when there is already an existing check sheet scheduled, it will set the current check sheet to aborted if it has not already been started and create the new check sheet.

An automatic check only helps if the operator sees it. The Event Notifications widget lists checks that are due, and uncoded downtime, and opens them with one click.

Quality notifications dashboard

asset-quality-notifications-dashboard.json: the Asset Quality and Notifications dashboard, with Event Notifications, a date range selector, and an Asset OEE Bar Chart showing the Quality metric.

Set up the operator dashboard
  1. Open the dashboard editor and import asset-quality-notifications-dashboard.json. It's created as Operator Dashboards\Asset Quality and Notifications.
  2. Open Machine 1's operation page, choose Asset Quality and Notifications in the dashboard selector, and make it the asset's default, as you did in Starting Production.
Trigger and complete an FAI
  1. In Run Control for Machine 1, set the mode to Changeover, select SC-2024 on the Product tab, and click Start Run. The machine enters Production.
  2. After the 5-minute delay, an FAI appears in Event Notifications. Click it to open Active Checks with Machine 1 selected.
  3. Open the FAI and confirm the asset and item are filled in.
  4. Enter three diameters near 25 mm, two lengths, and a visual result, then submit.
  5. Complete a second FAI on another machine. Trigger a third and leave it unfinished, so the next lesson has some late checks to analyze.
